Lavender Nursery – Lavender Plants
In the lavender nursery of our company, you will find high-quality lavender plants of the genus Lavandula Angustifolia, of various varieties. Lavender is characterized for its antiseptic, antimicrobial and relaxing action. Of course, the uses of lavender are not limited there, as there are also many practical applications of the essential oil produced from it.
Herbs & Oils aromatic plant nursery has been producing “genuine” lavender plants since 2014 in the area of Xirolimni Kozani. Plants are propagated by cuttings and not by seedlings. The cuttings are identical to the mother plants, so they have exactly the same DNA and are uniform. Something that facilitates our crop care and harvesting. The cuttings we use come from the company’s parent plantations. By controlling the origin of the cuttings, we ensure their quality and extend the quality of the lavender plant produced. So we are able to guarantee successful planting in your fields.
The lavender nursery is prepared at the end of winter (February-March). The plants are ready (to have developed a sufficient root system) for transplanting in the fields at the beginning of winter of the same year (November-December).
Cultivation of Lavender – Production Process
Lavender is planted in late autumn and early winter and cuttings are used. The plantation is done with a special planting machine but can also be done by hand. The crop loves altitude and prefers light, well-drained and calcareous soils (Ph> 6).
It is a very resistant plant to pests and diseases and has a lifespan of 10-12 years. Like all plants, lavender requires proper cultivation care especially in the first three years of its life. As you grow older, this care gradually diminish.
Harvesting from the lavender nursery includes special harvesting machines and takes place in summer, July or August, depending on the altitude and the weather conditions of the year. The harvest stage, when it comes to the production of essential oil, takes place when 50% of the flowers have withered. When intended for dry plants, the collection is done when 25-50% of the buds have bloomed.
Lavender essential oil
The quality of lavender essential oil depends on the type and percentage of the desired and unwanted ingredients. The yield of a crop, whether by weight of green mass or by kilograms of essential oil, depends on factors such as plant material, plantation setting, soil and climatic conditions, cultivation care and distillation.
